Check the door as well as the motor
An opener can struggle because of an issue elsewhere in the door system. We consider the door’s balance, hardware, photo-eye sensors, controls, and opener before recommending a repair or replacement.
Choose features you will actually use
When a replacement makes sense, compare drive types, noise, available headroom, battery backup, and compatible smart-home features. Availability depends on the selected model and your existing setup.
A few useful observations
Note whether the wall button works when the remote does not, whether opener lights flash, and whether the door reverses at the same point each time. Keep the safety sensors clear; do not bypass safety features.
Keep people and pets clear. Do not adjust springs, cables or bottom brackets. Stop operating a crooked, damaged or unusually heavy door until it has been assessed.
