Start with the location and access
Have your ZIP code and service address ready. Mention gated entry, driveway instructions or a separate garage entrance. If someone else will be there, clarify who can describe the concern and authorize work. Never move a damaged door just to make access easier.
Describe what changed
A new sound, an uneven door, a remote that stopped responding or a door that stays open are useful observations. Mention whether a vehicle is inside and whether the garage is unsecured. If you know the approximate age or model of the door and opener, have that information available; do not climb to retrieve it.
Give the work area room
When it is safe to do so, keep children and pets away and clear loose belongings from the work area. Ask about any additional preparation when the appointment is arranged. Leave springs, cables, tracks and other door hardware as they are.
Review the plan before work begins
Discuss the findings, proposed repair or replacement, price and scheduling. If the visit is a home warranty assignment, have your claim or work-order information ready and follow your provider’s instructions. A request does not by itself establish coverage or confirm an appointment.
